Long time no blog! It’s been a while since I’ve had the time to sit down and contribute my thoughts to the site here, as I’ve been swamped with the upcoming book release (and writing it of course), as well as preparing for the upcoming race season. Everything kicks off this weekend with the Babcock Gristmill Grinder Half Marathon, which I am even more excited about this year than any year in the past. My wife will be tackling her first trail race, and boy did she pick a doozy! 🙂
We are heading down Friday afternoon with the RV, setting up camp with our good friends Aaron and Sandy Yocum, who I will have the pleasure of running a lot of races with this year. This will also be my first race since the weekend of June 5th-6th, when I tackled the Frozen Sasquatch 50K and the Run to Read Half Marathon on back to back days. I’ve been putting in some long runs on the weekends, as we’re preparing for the upcoming Rim 2 Rim 2 Rim run at the Grand Canyon on April 27th, followed up with the Pittsburgh Marathon the following weekend. (I spoke to one of the most amazing ultrarunners I’ve ever had the pleasure of speaking with yesterday, and sounds like we may see each other out at the Grand Canyon the weekend of the 27th as well! More to come on that soon as we make sure our calendars match up.)
I’m very excited about the upcoming release of the Freedom Run book as well, as it will finally give me an opportunity to share the story of not only my run across America, but also stories of the amazing veterans and communities we encountered along the way. It was fun to relive the adventure through the writing, and I hope everyone enjoys it (the initial reviews are coming in very positive!).
I will start contributing more and more here as time goes on, passing along as much information about book signings, races, and upcoming speaking engagements, and ask that if you’d like for a motivational speaker at your next event, feel free to contact me. I’m happy to share my story and the stories of so many others that have inspired and encouraged me along the way. I will take any opportunity I can share about my heroes, our veterans and the US Military.
I’m going to try to keep Twitter and Facebook updated as much as possible before, during, and after my races, and I hope you join me as I continue to move forward for our veterans. Semper Fi!

At the young age of 39, I took on the greatest challenge of my life, an effort that pushed me both mentally and physically like I had never been challenged before. I completed a 3452 mile 100 day run across America, capped off with a 100 mile finish from Annapolis MD to Rehoboth Beach DE in under 24 hours, all to raise awareness and money in support of the men and women I consider my heroes, those that have worn and now wear the US Military’s uniform.
My book, “Freedom Run”, was released in April of 2013, detailing my journey to honor those who have bravely served, and describes the life-changing events of my run across America. MORE>
