One of the toughest road climbs you will make in West Virginia. The annual 5k walk/run is held in beautiful Sutton, WV as part of the Mountain Lakes Festival. The 2013 That Dam Race 5k is set for July 20 at 8:00 am. Preregister Now! Last year the course record was broken with a time 19:39! Do you think you’ve got what it takes to break it this year?
The course begins under the backdrop of the magnificent Sutton Dam at the Downstream Recreation Area. Participants then have a strenuous climb up the face of the dam and then across the top. Then, the course takes them on a trip through the woods and back down the Elk River. Participants hit the brick paved streets of historic downtown Sutton. The finish line is nearly in sight as participants head back up the river with the dam in the distance. The race ends back at the recreation area where it began. Come challenge yourself on one of the toughest and most unique courses in the area! Our course is certified by the USATF with Certification # WV11001MS. 2012: Samuel Smith Breaks the Course Record with 19:39 Time!
What a great race. Three runners broke 20 minutes after three years of no one getting under 20. Thank you to all the runners/walkers that participated on July 21 and made the race a success. The results can be found at Tri State Racer We will have pictures up soon. Thank you to everyone that helped or sponsored the race, including: Foodland, Kroger, Pepsi, Braxton CVB, GNC. Also, a special thanks to Wounded Warrior Runner Jamie Summerlin and his family for helping out at the race.

At the young age of 39, I took on the greatest challenge of my life, an effort that pushed me both mentally and physically like I had never been challenged before. I completed a 3452 mile 100 day run across America, capped off with a 100 mile finish from Annapolis MD to Rehoboth Beach DE in under 24 hours, all to raise awareness and money in support of the men and women I consider my heroes, those that have worn and now wear the US Military’s uniform.
My book, “Freedom Run”, was released in April of 2013, detailing my journey to honor those who have bravely served, and describes the life-changing events of my run across America. MORE>
