I will start his post off by saying I couldn’t help but cheer on the people who ran to the aid and rescue of those injured and maimed at the Boston Marathon yesterday. In the face of danger, not caring for their own safety, many of the runners and first responders moved in to assist those that could not assist themselves. America is strong. Our resolve will not be shaken, we will not stand down. We need leadership to stand up to those responsible, no matter if it is foreign or domestic, and show no mercy to the cowards that caused this. Physically, and mentally, Marathoner’s are a tough bunch, and it showed in the outpouring of support and compassion shown to those who needed it. When the local blood bank is asking people to return in a few days to give blood, since they are overwhelmed with supplies already, it shows the love we have for one another. I saw it in people as I crossed this beautiful country, and it was on display for the world to see yesterday. We will not live in fear. We will move forward.
On a much lighter note, the Gristmill Grinder was another huge success this year, with perfect weather and a huge turnout of around 300 people. I am so proud of my wife for running her first trail half marathon, and hearing her share with me how it may have been tough, but she can understand why I love trail running so much. It was an awesome experience to share with her. I also knocked 7 minutes off my PR time at the course, coming in at 1:57, and 33rd over all. When I finished up, I ran back down the trail to bring her in, and got a laugh when one of the runners who recognized me asked if I was running a cool down reverse loop. He knows me too well.
The Wild Warrior Challenge is coming up this weekend, then the Rim 2 Rim 2 Rim at the Grand Canyon next weekend, followed up with the Pittsburgh Marathon the weekend after. The fun is just beginning.
Oh…it looks like my book may be out much sooner than expected. Possibly shipping in the next couple of weeks, if not sooner. I can’t wait to share my story with everyone.
Keep Moving Forward! Semper Fi!

At the young age of 39, I took on the greatest challenge of my life, an effort that pushed me both mentally and physically like I had never been challenged before. I completed a 3452 mile 100 day run across America, capped off with a 100 mile finish from Annapolis MD to Rehoboth Beach DE in under 24 hours, all to raise awareness and money in support of the men and women I consider my heroes, those that have worn and now wear the US Military’s uniform.
My book, “Freedom Run”, was released in April of 2013, detailing my journey to honor those who have bravely served, and describes the life-changing events of my run across America. MORE>
